In the current study, sixteen entire male lambs aged 3-4 months were used, with 13.56 В± 0.4 kg as average primary body weight (BW). The study objective was for investigating the influence of feeding graded levels of turmeric on growth performance, nutrient intake and nutrient digestibility haematology and serology indices. The study demonstrated that the combined Se and I dietary supplementation improves growth performance, carcass dressing percentage and increases the retention of Se and I in goat meat. Thyroid follicular epithelial cells of IP and SSIP animals were significantly higher than those of CON and SS groups. The levels of both elements were significantly elevated (P < 0.05) in LL muscle in supplemented goats.

Carcasses from the IP group had higher (P < 0.05) total fat proportion than the SSIP group. Dressing percentage of goats fed the supplemented diets was higher (P < 0.05) than that of the control. Animals fed diet SSIP exhibited higher (P < 0.05) body weight and better feed conversion ratio (FCR) than those fed other diets. Twenty-four bucks were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments: control (CON), basal diet without supplementation, basal diet + 0.6 mg Se/kg dry matter (DM) (SS), 0.6 mg I/kg DM (IP), or combination of 0.6 mg/kg DM Se and 0.6 mg/kg DM I (SSIP) and fed for 100 days. This study assessed the effects of dietary selenium (Se), iodine (I) and a combination of both on growth performance, thyroid gland activity, carcass characteristics and the concentration of iodine and selenium in Longissimus lumborum (LL) muscle in goats. Copper in feedstuffs for animals derives from two main sources: (1) protein-bound copper from plant and animal tissues, (2) inorganic forms of copper from mineral feed. Copper concentrations in animal feed exhibit great variation. In the body of humans and animals, iron is by far the most abundant trace element. According to the relative amounts needed in the diet minerals can be divided into two groups-namely macrominerals and microminerals or trace elements. In animal nutrition, inorganic compounds are most frequently called minerals.

The chapter presents both, an update on the impact of trace elements on the nutrition of animals and insight into recent research possibilities using new molecular biological methods.

Aspects of the bioavailability of trace elements from natural and mineral sources are discussed, including an explanation of the problems of a reduced bioavailability caused by antinutritive feed components (for example phytic acid). The current recommendations of different national committees regarding trace element supply for laboratory animals (mouse, rat, and rabbit) and productive livestock (pig, beef cattle, dairy cow, goat, chicken, and turkey) have been presented and discussed with regard to the prevention of deficiency symptoms, as well as the toxicological features of oversupply. This chapter focuses on describing the physiological functions fulfilled by the trace elements. Their function as integral parts of diverse proteins and enzymes involved in fundamental metabolic and protective (antioxidative) processes make them indispensable. Essential trace elements are the most important inorganic feed additives for the nutrition of laboratory animals and livestock. The chapter presents a study on inorganic feed additives.
